Description

The Salema can be identified by its silvery body with brown/orange horizontal stripes, large eye, and forked tail. They are a schooling fish. Many 6-8" Salema are present in this exhibit.

Habitat and distribution

Most commonly found in shallow waters near reefs and piers. Ranges throughout the Eastern Pacific from USA to Mexico.

In rare cases, the Salema can contain toxic compounds that cause hallucinogenic effects in humans.
